You might have heard about Google’s AdSense program before, but do you know exactly what it is and how it works? AdSense is quite simply one of the hottest and easiest ways for us as individuals to make large amounts of profit through our websites, with minimal effort.
I know these claims are all over the place, and I bet most of you currently have AdSense ads on your web pages but are not making that much profit from it. In this article I’ll explain some of the small changes that can be made to your AdSense ads that will maximize the click through rate to your ads.
If you don’t have a web site that’s great, in a later article I’ll show you how to create an online AdSense empire from scratch in no time at all. But for now let’s concentrate on maximizing the profit from your current AdSense ads google scraping.
How does Google AdSense work?
Google’s AdSense program is a ridiculously easy way for ANYONE with a web site to generate extra passive income effortlessly. Every billionaire on this plant has multiple streams of passive income, income you receive without having to work for it. Google place adverts on your website and pay you every time that some one clicks on those links. You don’t have to worry about choosing a great add either, Google does that for you!! How?
Google has some of the smartest computers in the world that are constantly getting updated. When you enter a search into their system they send out their ‘Googlebots’, which spider the pages of the net. For example we search for ‘free Microsoft Frontpage download’, then the ‘Googlebots’ will trawl the net looking for these keywords specifically.
Google does exactly the same thing on your web pages, and like their search results they will pick the most relevant ads to display on your web pages.
Google was created with a vision of being the best search engine in the world (and to be fair, it really is). 80% of all internet traffic comes from Google so these really are the people to impress (more about impressing them in my free search engine optimization article). But how do you ensure you maximize your AdSense profits?
Well, Google loves quality content rich web pages that are specific and relevant to the content. What I mean by this is if you have a web page about dog breeds with an add banner for a credit card company and loads of information about yourself, then these are not relevant to the content of the web pages. If you have a web site that offers movie reviews (for example) then all of your ads and content should be specifically relevant to movies or reviews only. They will rate you highly for doing this and it also means that the AdSense ads displayed by Google will be completely relevant to your content.
Why is this important?
Apart from Google rewarding you by putting you higher in the search engines, it will also mean that you have a much higher chance of your prospects clicking on the adds because they are exactly match what they are specifically looking for. If you have a web site that has 20 pages and is selling CDs (again an example), then a page with 100 CDs will contain allot of key words and will ‘confuse’ the Googlebots as top what adds to display. As CD will be a prominent keyword on this site you are more than likely to get ‘blank CDs for only $10’ or some broad scoped add.
This may not seem like a biggie but think of it this way…
If you search the internet for ‘Oasis’ new album’ in Google then they will display the most relevant search results using those keywords, the same goes with the adds that AdSense display. If there are ads displayed that are exactly matching what your prospect is looking for.
Don’t think of this as trying to drive your potential customers to another web site, think like this. You aren’t going to be able to convert every prospect into a sale, but you can still profit off of all of the prospects who decide not to buy from your site. This way you have a passive income to add to your front end sales.
The key to maximizing your profit through AdSense is to create a separate page for each product/service/review etc. Make the content of that page as specific to that item as you can. You will generate more revenue by doing this as Google will display your page further up their ranks and if the customer does not buy from you, they will click one of the adds rather than going back to Google and looking through the same results that could be being displayed on your page.
Google also loves sites that have regularly updated (relevant) content. If you don’t have a page created for every single product then start doing it now. This doesn’t only benefit your Google AdSense revenue but will place you high in the Google rankings.
Research has been done (not by me before you ask, by the Poynter institute and others) into people’s online behaviours. It’s shown that the upper LEFT corner will get the most attention, and then scan the page before reading its content. We have also trained our selves to blank out the banner ads at the top, middle and bottom of web pages (it’s become like junk mail). Sky scraper ads (vertical) have been proven to be far more effective and profitable than horizontal ads. Believe it or not text ads are more profitable than banners.
One thing that is fundamental in generating maximum profit from your Google AdSense ads is to make sure that the ads blend in with your site. If you have a site that has a green theme to it then blue AdSense text ads are going to stand out.
How do you blend you AdSense ads in with your theme?
This really isn’t hard. When you’re generating your AdSense codes Google will give you an option to change the color of your add. This is the ‘change pallet’ option. Simply change the text color to one that is closest to your sites theme. Now they won’t look like adverts and people are more likely to click on them and the more likely you are of maximizing your click through rate.
Also make sure you have your AdSense ads on EVERY PAGE! But Google is serious about attracting more quality content sites, so they only allow AdSense members to serve one AdSense ad per page. This means either a banner OR text ads.
Don’t try and trick or fool Google. Remember they are the people you need to impress, they will drive most of your traffic and they will know if you are trying to cheat them. They have rules and will reward you if you stick to them.
