British Heritage is Helped by the Lottery

The Ulster Aviation Society has an interesting collection of eleven aircraft at a hangar at Long Kesh. They have now started the restoration of a Belfast-built English Electric Canberra PR9. Eventually the aircraft will be used for illustrated talks, guided tours and an educational DVD in order to describe this part of Northern Irish history.

Of course funding such a scheme is always a challenge which is why the Ulster Aviation Society are pleased to receive a £50 000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Several bodies one of which is the Heritage Lottery Fund, which contributes to cultural and historic projects, distribute money raised from the British National Lottery. The Heritage Lottery Fund was set up at the same time as the UK lottery draw in 1994 and has distributed £4.4 billion over 33 900 schemes throughout Britain.

Between the city of Londonderry and the Sperrin Mountains in Northern Ireland lies the beautifully wooded Faughan Valley. The Heritage Lottery Fund is about to present up หวยออนไลน์ to £1.2 million to a joint project between Derry City Council, The Woodland Trust and The Rural Area Partnership In Derry (RAPID) to restore the ancient woodlands in such a way as to include local people. Initiatives considered are walking festivals, Heritage Weeks, rural crafts training and woodland visits.

The Woodland Trust’s representative, Brain Poots, says, “We are absolutely delighted to receive the backing of the Heritage Lottery Fund. With our collective efforts, we can make a positive and lasting contribution to the beautiful Faughan valley; it’s good news for the landscape, for wildlife and for people.”

It is clear that the Heritage Lottery Fund does use funds from the UK lottery draw wisely. For this reason it is good news to hear that, as the income from the British National Lottery is growing, their budget has also been increased. The fund will have an extra £25 million a year to distribute above the £180 million they have already been allocated annually.

The Heritage Lottery Fund supports some great causes using funds raised from the UK lottery draw and the recent increase just revealed will ensure yet more historical buildings, libraries, museums and conservation projects will be financed during the years to come. When the lottery winners are drawn each week the whole of Britain benefits.
